JAMALI TRIBE

Jamali (Urdu: جمالی, Sindhi: جمالي) is the name of a Baloch tribe in Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab provinces of Pakistan.

The tribe is prominent in provincial and federal politics.

Prominent political figures from the Jamali tribe in Balochistan include the former Sardar Of Jamali Sardar Noor Mohameed Khan Jamali Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali; former Chief Minister of Balochistan and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mir Taj Muhammad Khan Jamali; and the former Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Mir Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali. They follow in the political legacy of late Mir Jafar Khan Jamali - a prominent figure in Pakistan's independence movement - and belong to the Rojhan Jamali village, Nasirabad District close to the city of Dera Murad Jamali, Jaffarabad District.

Prominent political figures from the Jamali tribe in Sindh include Federal State Minister for Food and Agricultural, Rafique Ahmed Jamali; he is a Member of the National Assembly from Dadu.

Although the tribe has rural agricultural roots, there is a growing number of urban professionals from the tribe. Among them, late surgeon and academic, Professor Maula Baksh Jamali (1939-2004) of the Dow University of Health Sciences, was the first and most prominent. He belonged to Haji Khan Jamali village, close to Nawabshah, Sindh.
